Orders

What is your return policy?

At Tectonic, we strive to ensure your satisfaction with every purchase. Due to the nature of our products, we do not typically accept returns or exchanges for coffee (merch and gear are always eligible for a 30 day refund/exchange if stock allows). However, we understand that unique circumstances may arise, and we are committed to working with you on a case-by-case basis to find a satisfactory solution. For wholesale and direct-to-customer equipment, returns are handled through the manufacturer's warranty.

Please refer to the manufacturer's policies for details on returns and exchanges. If you have any questions or need assistance regarding a purchase, please contact us directly at [Your Contact Information]. We're here to help!

How does the coffee subscription work?

I'm sure we don't have to explain a subscription based plan with you, but let's do it anyways!

On every product page, except single origins (we will get to this later), you'll see an option to schedule recurring shipments of your desired coffee. This can be weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, depending on how much coffee you need/want. Recurring payments will process the same day of every week/month that the subscription began.

Okay, but what are the single origin/rotating subscription options?

Considering we like to keep our selection fresh and work with both new farms and those we have established relationships with, we rotate our single origin options throughout the year. With that, we cannot offer a subscription based option for a one specific single origin and because of that, we decided to offer subscription options like the Single Origin Subscription and Roaster's Choice. The coffees sent to you from this subscription options will change it week depending on what we have roasting at the time and what our Head Roaster's favorite coffee of the week is.

Can I skip a subscription shipment?

Absolutely! All you have to do is head to your subscription portal and you can make any adjustments you need to your recurring order.

I made a mistake on my order—can I fix it?

We cannot guarantee it, but we will absolutely do our best. Head to our contact page to request an order edit with our team.

Please keep in mind that we stop accepting orders for that week's roast, Saturday at 11:59p and begin roasting bright and early on Sunday morning. If you don't reach out before end of day Friday or place an order later than that, the likelihood of us being able to help drops significantly.

Shipping

How long will my order take to ship?

We roast on Sundays and ship on Mondays! The only time this will change is for national holidays that fall on either day, and we will always check in with you if we are planning any sort of delay before it happens.

Do you offer international shipping?

We do! You can choose your shipping method and rate at check out.

How much is shipping?

Shipping is dependent on your location and order size and is calculated at check out. Orders over $400 receive free shipping.

What is the tariff tax I am seeing at check out?

We've all heard or been apart of the tariff conversation recently... We needed to implement a fee to cover some of the import costs we are now facing, but we wanted to be as transparent as possible with you. Instead of upping the prices of the coffee themselves or baking this tariff tax in, we want you to know where the additional fee is coming from.

We will continue to monitor the changing taxes and mirror them as minimally, but realistically, as we can.

Can I pick up my order locally?

Sure can! Select "local pick up" at check out and your order will be brought to our West Hollywood cafe. All pick up orders are typically delivered to the cafe on Monday mornings, so we recomming coming by in the afternoon or any time after that. We will send you a notification when your order is ready for pick up (but bear with us, sometimes this notification gets delayed, but the coffee is at the cafe).

Please note: orders—primarily coffee—must be picked up within 14 days. Once outside of the guarenteed freshness window, we will have to toss the coffee without a refund.

Coffee

What is the best brew method for your coffee?

Every coffee is different! You can head over to the coffee you're interested in and check out the brew guide on that page.

Is your coffee organic/fair trade/etc.?

Yes and no—and everything in between! While we don’t yet have the costly certification required to label our coffees “Organic,” many of our beans are grown using organic practices. Internally, we call these lots Origin Organic, but regulations prevent us from advertising them that way. The same applies to our Fairtrade-organic coffees—typically Ethiopian origins; without certification, we can’t market them as organic. We know this may not be the answer you hoped for, but please rest assured: we care deeply about what goes into our bodies and how the people who grow our coffee are treated.

Is your coffee whole bean or ground?

Now, that's up to you! All of our coffee will default to whole bean, but you can simply change that to ground on the product page before adding to cart.

How should I store my coffee?

In an airtight container away from direct sunlight and heat. If freezing see this video

What is the roast level of your coffee?

We typically roast on the lighter end to highlight origin characteristics, but you’ll find medium and darker roast profiles depending on the coffee. Check the product page for tasting notes and roast level. You can also head over here to understand our seismograph a bit better.

What is natural process coffee?

Natural process coffee keeps the entire cherry intact during drying. Instead of removing the fruit first, the whole coffee cherry is laid out to dry in the sun. As it dries, the seeds inside absorb sugars and flavors from the fruit.

Once fully dried, the fruit is removed and the beans are prepared for roasting.

Because the beans spend more time in contact with the fruit, natural coffees often have fuller body and more pronounced fruit flavors. They can taste bold, juicy, or even slightly wine-like compared to washed coffees.

What is honeyed/pulped natural processed coffee?

Like all coffee, honey processed coffee starts as a cherry with seeds inside. After harvest, the outer skin is removed, but some of the sticky fruit layer, called mucilage, is intentionally left on the beans while they dry.

This remaining fruit adds natural sweetness and body to the coffee. The name “honey” does not mean honey is added. It refers to the sticky texture of the fruit left on the bean.

You may also hear different “colors” of honey process, such as Yellow Honey, Red Honey, or Black Honey. These colors do not refer to the color of the bean itself, but to how much fruit is left on during drying and how the coffee is dried. Generally:

• Yellow Honey: Less fruit left on the bean. Cleaner, lighter, and more delicate.
• Red Honey: Moderate fruit contact. Sweeter with more body.
• Black Honey: Most fruit left on and slower drying. Richer, heavier, and more fruit-forward.

Honey processed coffees often taste sweeter and rounder than washed coffees, with a smooth body and balanced acidity, while still remaining fairly clean in flavor.

You may also hear the term “Pulped Natural.” In most cases, pulped natural and honey process refer to the same style of processing. The term “pulped natural” is commonly used in Brazil, while “honey” is more often used in Central America. Both describe coffee where the skin is removed but some fruit is left on the bean during drying.

What is washed processed coffee?

Coffee actually begins as a fruit. It grows on a tree as a small red or yellow cherry. Inside each cherry are usually two seeds — those seeds are what we roast and brew as coffee beans.

In the washed (or wet) process, the fruit is removed from the seeds shortly after harvest. The cherries are pulped to remove the outer skin, then the beans are fermented in water to loosen any remaining fruit before being washed clean and dried.

Because most of the fruit is removed before drying, washed coffees tend to taste clean, bright, and well-defined. Flavors are often crisp and clear, allowing you to taste the origin of the coffee more distinctly.

Inner Core

What is Inner Core?

Inner Core is an initiative that we started during the pandemic. It was quite a tough time for us all and we wanted to thank the customers that really rallied behind us during that time because, as with many other businesses, we wouldn't have made it through those three years without them.

We decided to offer wholesale pricing to all. This meant retail customers were able to receive access to our discounted rates that are typically only accessible through our business-to-business operations. This initiative was for a limited amount of time and once we were able to get our prices back to general market prices, we did, but we allowed that group of customers to receive those discounted rates for life as gratitude for their support.

Can I join Inner Core now?

Unfortunately not. This was a limited run during the pandemic.
